Bus lines stopping within 200 metres of the basilica: 19, 33, 34, 50, 51, 92 and H10. The hop-on hop-off Barcelona Bus Turistic red line stops opposite the Nativity facade.

By walking from Plaza Catalunya

Walking from Plaza Catalunya: 2.4 km along Passeig de Gracia, then Avinguda Diagonal. 30 minutes at a steady pace. The route passes Casa Batllo and Casa Mila, so it doubles as a Gaudi mini-tour. Best done in the morning to avoid hot afternoon sun in summer.

By taxi or rideshare

From Plaza Catalunya: 9 to 12 euros, 12 minutes. From Sants station: 12 to 15 euros, 15 minutes. Drop-off zones are on Carrer de Mallorca side, away from the busy Nativity facade. Cabify, Bolt and Free Now operate in Barcelona.

From the airport

Two main routes from BCN airport:

  • Aerobus + metro: Aerobus to Plaza Catalunya (35 min), then metro L2 from Universitat (8 min). Total 60 min, cost 8 euros.
  • R2 train + metro: R2 to Passeig de Gracia (35 min), then metro L2 (4 min). Total 50 min, cost 5 euros.
  • Direct taxi: 35 to 45 euros, 30 to 40 minutes depending on traffic.

Tour bus and group transport

The Barcelona Bus Turistic red line stops at Sagrada Familia. Useful if you have a 1-day pass that covers other Gaudi sites. The blue line does not stop here.

What most blogs miss

Most guides forget to warn about the Sagrada Familia metro station exits. There are three exits and the wrong one (Plaza Catalunya direction) puts you 200 metres further from the entrance. Always look for "Sortida Provença" or "Sortida Marina" signs to exit closest to the basilica.
