Hospital de Sant Pau (10 minute walk)
A dazzling Art Nouveau hospital complex by Domenech i Montaner, finished in 1930 and now a museum. Walk straight up the pedestrian Avinguda de Gaudi from the basilica. Open daily, tickets around 16 euros, less crowded than the Gaudi sites and well worth an hour.
Avinguda de Gaudi itself
The diagonal pedestrian avenue linking the basilica to Sant Pau is lined with terraces and good for a coffee or vermut with a view back to the towers. Free to stroll, best in late afternoon light.
Casa Mila (La Pedrera, 20 minute walk)
Gaudi's wave-fronted apartment building on Passeig de Gracia, a flat 20 minute walk west on Carrer de Provenca. Famous rooftop with chimney sculptures. Tickets from about 28 euros, or 47 euros for the evening light-and-music experience.
Glories and the Encants market (15 minutes)
East of the basilica, the Torre Glories (Agbar) skyscraper, the Glories shopping centre and the open-air Encants flea market, one of Europe's oldest. Good for a budget afternoon and people-watching.
A walkable half-day plan
Basilica at 9:00, coffee on Avinguda de Gaudi, Hospital de Sant Pau at 11:00, lunch near Sant Pau, then walk to Casa Mila for the afternoon. All on foot.
