Basic rules

Shoulders covered (no tank tops or strappy dresses). Knees covered (no shorts above the knee or short skirts). No bare feet, no flip flops in the basilica. Hats must be removed inside.

What is not allowed

Beachwear, swimsuits, transparent clothing, sportswear like running tops, large rucksacks (over 40 cm) and selfie sticks. Tripods need permits.

Children and exceptions

Children under 10 do not have to follow the dress code. People in summer can carry a scarf to cover shoulders quickly at the entrance.

Tower visits and weather

Tower stairs are narrow and steep. Wear closed-toe shoes with grip. In rain, tower access closes for safety.

Only if the shorts cover the knees. Shorter shorts are not allowed in the basilica. Bring a wrap or long skirt as backup.

Yes. Tank tops and strappy dresses are not allowed. A light scarf or shawl works to cover up at the entrance.
